Week 3 - The Glenlivet 15
Rick here... rounding out this medly of glenlivets is... Glenlivet 15. A very light amber in color with shades of yellow... one might think this is something not as mild as the 12 and a bit lighter than the 18 (if that hair can be split). But one would be wrong. I found this one lasted in the back of the throat a bit longer, had a stronger bouquet then the other two and all in all a bit more of a Scotch. And odd as it seems I tasted a bit of licorice. This is a scotch I might drink again. Though, not as a first or second choice.

So, waiting for brother Rick to fill in the details, but sitting here sipping this watching American Idol.
ReplyDeleteThe 15 is the fall of this series, and would do a good job keeping you warm at that cold football game. If it happens to be a UVa football game, then it would provide the needed numbness as well...
Sum it up, easy to drink, but little to distract.
Color: orangey gold
ReplyDeleteLegs: Medium to strong, not a clear line of demarcation, though the drops seem to stay up after a sip
Nose: Starts out with the familiar medicinal small, but a nice change after the first taste with some sweetness
Taste: Some smoke
The nose clearly changed after the first taste. I am also noticing that tilting my small tasting glass seems to aid in the nosing. A drop of water again greatly advances the sweetness and the smoke in the flavor, adding some butteryness as well, maybe even improving the finish (making it go longer). Of the three so far, the drop made the biggest difference.
I’d say the winner of the 3 Glenlivets, provided the drop of water is added.
Glenlivet 15: 1st sip – the alcohol out weighs the taste a bit per usual for me. 2nd sip, still a bit of the “burn” but mild flavor, what there is. Not appreciably more than the 12 as I recall. Adding a splash renders this drinkable with more flavor than the 12 – perhaps a “single note” compared to a rich blend such as J&B (best drunk over ice with soda). Creamier texture with a splash of soda.
